Dubai has reinforced its position as a global logistics powerhouse by launching an integrated logistics bridge in partnership with Emirates SkyCargo, ensuring the uninterrupted movement of essential goods despite mounting pressures on international supply chains.
The joint initiative, led by Dubai Customs and the cargo division of Emirates Airline, streamlined cargo operations across Dubai International Airport Cargo Village and the Air Cargo Centre at Maktoum International Airport. By combining advanced customs processes with coordinated logistics, the partnership enabled faster cargo clearance, increased handling capacity, and strengthened the flow of food, pharmaceuticals, and other critical supplies to the UAE and neighbouring Gulf markets.
Strong growth reflects operational resilience
The impact of the collaboration was evident in its operational performance. Between January and May 2026, the volume of imported goods processed through the two cargo facilities climbed from 26.6 million kilograms to more than 48.2 million kilograms—an increase of over 82%.
The system also handled significantly higher daily cargo volumes, with peak throughput rising from 1.24 million kilograms in January to more than 2.1 million kilograms in May. These figures underscore Dubai’s ability to rapidly scale operations while maintaining efficient customs clearance and service standards.
Beyond supporting domestic demand, Dubai continued to serve as a vital logistics gateway for the Gulf region. Working alongside Emirates SkyCargo, Dubai Customs coordinated 529 truck movements through May 2026, transporting more than 2,600 tonnes of essential cargo, including meat, pharmaceutical products, and general merchandise. The operation helped safeguard regional supply chains during a period marked by geopolitical uncertainty.
Technology and collaboration drive efficiency
Dubai Customs attributed the success of the initiative to close coordination with government entities and private-sector partners, backed by smart customs solutions such as the Green Corridor and the Shahin initiative. These programmes prioritise the clearance of food, medicine, and other essential shipments through secure, fast-track inspection channels.
To meet growing demand, customs teams expanded inspection capacity, introduced additional inspection windows, and optimised cargo terminal space, reducing congestion and ensuring uninterrupted cargo movement during peak periods.
Officials said the initiative reflects Dubai’s long-term strategy of investing in resilient infrastructure, digital transformation, and cross-sector collaboration. Together with Emirates SkyCargo, the emirate continues to strengthen its role as a trusted global trade hub, capable of responding swiftly to market disruptions while keeping goods flowing efficiently across local, regional, and international supply chains.
